Nintendo Wii Smart DNS Setup Guide

Follow this simple guide to set up UnGeo Smart DNS on your Nintendo Wii using the built-in Internet settings.

Before You Start

Before changing your DNS settings, make sure your UnGeo account is active and your current IP address is added in your Client Area. If that is already done, continue with the DNS setup below.

Add your current IP address

Add your current IP address in the Client Area to allow UnGeo to work properly.

Register My IP Address

Once both are done, continue with the DNS setup steps.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Open Wii Options

From the Nintendo Wii home screen, select Wii Options in the bottom-left corner.

Open Wii Settings

Select Wii Settings to open the main system settings menu.

Go to Internet Settings

Use the right arrow to go to the next settings page, then select Internet.

Open Connection Settings

Select Connection Settings.

Choose Your Active Connection

Select the connection profile your Nintendo Wii is currently using.

Open Change Settings

Select Change Settings to edit the selected connection.

Find Auto-Obtain DNS

Use the right arrow until you reach Auto-Obtain DNS. Be careful not to change Auto-Obtain IP Address.

Disable Auto-Obtain DNS

Select No, then open Advanced Settings.

Enter Your UnGeo Smart DNS servers

In the Primary DNS field, enter the primary UnGeo Smart DNS server shown in your Client Area. In the Secondary DNS field, enter the secondary UnGeo Smart DNS server if available.

Save Your Changes

Select Confirm, then choose Save.

Test Connection

Select OK when Nintendo Wii asks to test the connection and wait for the test to complete.

Restart Nintendo Wii

Turn your Nintendo Wii off and back on so the new DNS settings are fully applied.

Your Nintendo Wii is now ready to use UnGeo Smart DNS.

Visit the UnGeo DNS Check page to verify whether your device is using UnGeo Smart DNS correctly.

Troubleshooting

Open Wii Options → Wii Settings → Internet → Connection Settings, select your active connection, then use the right arrow until you reach Auto-Obtain DNS.
Do not change Auto-Obtain IP Address. Continue pressing the right arrow until you reach Auto-Obtain DNS.
Check that the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS were entered correctly. Then save the settings again and restart your Nintendo Wii.
Nintendo Wii supports older Wi-Fi standards and may not work with some modern router security settings. If needed, use a compatible Wi-Fi mode or a wired adapter.
Make sure your UnGeo account is active, your current IP address is added in the Client Area, and the UnGeo Smart DNS servers were entered correctly.
