FRITZ!Box Smart DNS Setup Guide

Follow this simple guide to set up UnGeo Smart DNS on your FRITZ!Box router using the built-in router admin settings.

Before You Start

Before changing your DNS settings, make sure your UnGeo account is active and your current IP address is added in your Client Area. If that is already done, continue with the DNS setup below.

Choose a plan and create your UnGeo account before setting up DNS.

Add your current IP address

Add your current IP address in the Client Area to allow UnGeo to work properly.

Register My IP Address

Once both are done, continue with the DNS setup steps.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Open FRITZ!Box Admin Panel

Open a browser on a device connected to your FRITZ!Box and go to http://fritz.box or 192.168.178.1.

Log In to Your Router

Enter your FRITZ!Box password to access the router settings.

Open Internet Settings

In the left menu, select Internet.

Open Account Information

Select Account Information. On some FRITZ!OS versions, this may appear as Account Data.

Open DNS Server Tab

Click the DNS Server tab.

Enable Custom DNS

Select Use other DNSv4 servers so you can enter DNS servers manually.

Enter Your UnGeo Smart DNS servers

In the Preferred DNSv4 server field, enter the primary UnGeo Smart DNS server shown in your Client Area. In the Alternative DNSv4 server field, enter the secondary UnGeo Smart DNS server.

Save Your Changes

Click Apply to save the new DNS settings.

Restart Your Router

Restart your FRITZ!Box so the new DNS settings are applied to your network.

Restart Connected Devices

Restart the devices connected to your FRITZ!Box so they receive the updated DNS settings.

You’re All Set!

Your FRITZ!Box router is now ready to use UnGeo Smart DNS across your home network.

How to Check If It’s Working

Visit the UnGeo DNS Check page to verify whether your device is using UnGeo Smart DNS correctly.

Troubleshooting

Make sure your device is connected to the FRITZ!Box network. Try http://fritz.box or 192.168.178.1 in your browser.
Open Internet → Account Information and check the top tabs. On some FRITZ!OS versions, Account Information may be shown as Account Data.
Select Use other DNSv4 servers first. The Preferred DNSv4 server and Alternative DNSv4 server fields should become editable after that.
Restart your FRITZ!Box and reconnect your devices to the network. Some devices may keep old DNS settings until they reconnect.
Make sure your UnGeo account is active, your current IP address is added in the Client Area, and the UnGeo Smart DNS servers were entered correctly.
