Windows 8 Smart DNS Setup Guide

Follow this simple guide to set up UnGeo Smart DNS on Windows 8 using the classic Network and Sharing Center.

Before You Start

Before changing your DNS settings, make sure your UnGeo account is active and your current IP address is added in your Client Area. If that is already done, continue with the DNS setup below.

Check your UnGeo account

Make sure you have an active UnGeo account to use UnGeo Smart DNS.

Add your current IP address

Add your current IP address in the Client Area to allow UnGeo to work properly.

Once both are done, continue with the DNS setup steps.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Open Control Panel

From the Windows 8 Start screen, open Control Panel. You can also search for Control Panel from the Start screen.

Go to Network and Internet

In Control Panel, click Network and Internet.

Open Network and Sharing Center

Click Network and Sharing Center to view your active network settings.

Open Change Adapter Settings

In the left-side menu, click Change adapter settings.

Choose Your Active Connection

Right-click the connection you currently use. This may be Ethernet, Local Area Connection, or Wi-Fi, depending on your device.

Open Adapter Properties

Select Properties from the menu. If Windows asks for permission, click Yes or enter your administrator password.

Select Internet Protocol Version 4

Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), then click Properties.

Enter Your UnGeo DNS Servers

Select Use the following DNS server addresses, then enter the UnGeo DNS addresses shown in your Client Area.

Save Your Changes

Click OK, then close the remaining network settings windows.

You’re All Set!

Restart your browser or streaming app if needed. You can now start watching your favorite channels with UnGeo Smart DNS.

How to Check If It’s Working

Visit the UnGeo DNS Check page to verify whether your device is using UnGeo Smart DNS correctly.

Troubleshooting

Open the Start screen and type Control Panel. Windows should show Control Panel in the search results.
Make sure you are inside Network and Sharing Center. The Change adapter settings link appears in the left-side menu.
Choose the adapter you are actively using. For cable internet, it may be Ethernet or Local Area Connection. For wireless internet, choose Wi-Fi or Wireless Network Connection.
DNS changes require administrator access. Sign in with an administrator account or approve the request when Windows asks.
Make sure your UnGeo account is active, your current IP address is added in the Client Area, and the DNS addresses were entered exactly as shown.
